Stauffer, I searched further for Isaac Stauffer, who Ezra claims to have been a millionaire cotton merchant.

I think that this Isaac Stauffer (1) is the father of Isaac (2) Hull Stauffer who owned Stauffer Eshleman & Co. in New Orleans. Now the search begins for his ancestry. An interesting document about Isaac's (1) daughter can be found at www.neworleansbar.org/documents/ENews06Nostalgia503LostAn.doc

A recent Google search using 3 "garden lane" stauffer new orleans revealed evidence that Isaac Stauffer once owned the mansion at 3 Garden Lane in New Orleans (Maestri, R.). This is located adjacent to the New Orleans Country Club.

I also found information that indicated actor John Goodman once owned the property.

I am still searching for photo evidence of any Hurricane Katrina damages to the property.

Google Maps Satellite images have good close ups of the area.

In Genealogies of Pennsylvania Families Volume III. (1982). Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., William T. Stauffer published Hans Stauffer's Account Books. A Study. If you have this subscription the link to this is http://www.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/ifa_image.cgi?SEC=Genealogies-20of-20Pennsylvania-20Families-20III-2C-20St-2DZ&IN=002170&PN=44&CD=163

The account books have a description of his emmigration from Weissenau to London from Nov. 5, 1709 to Jan. 26, 1710.

I have found this recounted at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ggracie/library/stover/hans.html

The book appears to have been left to his son Jacob, and then to Jacob's son John. Jacob appears to have entered family members and financial accountings. John appeared to have only recorded family members.

While searching the Internet for more information on another Stauffer relative, Wilfred Ludwig Stauffer, I ran accross information that indicates Wilfred Ludwig Stauffer, Sr. once had Hans' diary in his possession. For more details and other links about Wilfred Ludwig's family, see the forum post thread at http://stauffergenealogy.com/communityserver/forums/p/9/18.aspx#18

Paul Clark Stauffer

Great Find in Google Books!
